E-urocanic acid is a natural compound which is formed in the skin from histidine. E-urocanic acid can be izomerized into Z-urocanic acid by sunlight. E-urocanic acid acts as a UV-blocker and has been suggested to be an antiproliferative agent in cancer treatment. E-urocanic acid is an intermediate to produce cisurocanic acid (CAS: 7699-35-6), which is proven to be a very potent anti-cancer agent; due to its immunosuppressant effects, it can also be used in the treatment of skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis.
